Robot as Human

Some things to try.

Over the course of developing MIDIGen, I've amassed some useful tidbits on its use. The following is a list of the more interesting ones...

  • Use MIDIGen to become more familiar with musical scales

Set the range-restrict control to zero and MIDIGen gives you the closest note in a given scale that you give to it. You can use this to easily discover which notes are in a scale: play all of the notes in an octave in ascending order and if a note repeats, the key you pressed is not in the scale.

  • Transpose the sequence created in Memory mode

When the Memory function is activated, pressing middle C will give you the sequence as generated. You can transpose the sequence up or down by pressing different keys.

  • Use the hold function for pad sounds

When the hold function is turned on, MIDIGen won't release notes until it receives more notes. This works well for pads and other sounds you want to sustain.

  • Use the chromatic scale when using MIDIGen with beat-slicing plugins

The chromatic scale contains all twelve notes within a given octave. Using it with slicing plugins ensures that no slices will be bypassed.

  • Have multiple MIDIGens output to a single MIDI port

The more, the merrier, right? Although, things may get a little chaotic!
