(Having your own website is nice ‘cuz then you don’t have to worry about arbitrary algorithms hiding what you write from others, yay.)
So my new album is going to be released in three days—I’m setting a deadline in order to stop myself from tinkering with it. It’s different from anything I’ve released in the past, but change has always been a part of my “musical philosophy” so it’s nothing new, really.
With this album, I’ve gone a bit overboard in fine-tuning how each track sounds. It has been an experiment in new mastering techniques: creating preliminary recordings that are adjusted to “perfection.” There really is an infinite amount of depth that can go into this sort of thing, but, likewise, I seem to have an infinite amount of patience for micro-adjustments to knobs and sliders. I have newfound appreciation for audio engineers who work on others’ recordings: they obviously want the audio to sound good but also want the other parties involved to be satisfied. Oh, and me? I’m just a smart-ass who make his own music for kicks, not following any rules or guidelines, so it sounds how I want it to sound. Just deal with it (I don’t like bass, ok?).
Am I still writing about this frickin’ album? Goddamn, let me change the subject. Hey, peep this: I’m currently working on a mini-album that I’m more excited about than what I’m releasing in three days. It has eight tracks, will probably be around thirty minutes in total length, and I think it’s going to be really special but that’s coming from my own perspective. It’s a very personal mini-thing, indeed: thematically, it deals with my own experience and take on being a person in this world, removed from anyone else’s influence or opinion. It’s going to be simpler than Micro-adjusted to Death, and I’m trying out some new production tricks to get a fresh result. It’s also going to be on music-streaming services, so you can tune in on your Gloopstr or your Fickernik or whatever the kids are into these days.
