Hey there, I’ve been testing my VST plugins in various DAWs to make sure that they’re working as advertised. I’ve found some minor issues that I’ve since fixed, but HEY, let’s get some more detailed reports, eh?
FL STUDIO AND REAPER: In these DAWs, the plugs are working exactly as they’re meant to. Yup, just plop ‘em in and everything’s fine. FL Studio is what I’ve been using for the past forty years and is the main software I use to test my pluggies during development.
CUBASE AND ABLETON LIVE: The latest versions of these DAWs only support 64-bit VST plugins. Currently, my plugins are 32-bit only, which means that they’re incompatible with these DAWs. HOWEVER, they will work if you run them through a 32-to-64-bit wrapper. I’ve tested a wrapper called jBridge (which costs money but is available in a demo version) and my plugins seem to work fine with it. There is also a wrapper for Mac called 32 Lives but I have no way to test that one out.
BITWIG STUDIO: Ah yes, Bitwig Studio. This seems like a cool DAW but it doesn’t like my plugins one bit. Sometimes the pluggos work fine, other times they crash immediately, other times they crash when adjusting a control in the plugin’s GUI, sometimes they get stuck in a crash loop, and so on. I’ve been looking into this crashing nonsense and, as of now, have no idea why it happens. An interesting thing to note is that if you use the jBridge wrapper in Bitwig Studio, my plugins work perfectly fine. I’m guessing that maybe there’re some issues the Bitwig team needs to work on (?).
(UPDATE FROM TWO DAYS LATER: I’ve investigated the crashes some more and now my plugins work in Bitwig Studio without crashing! I made some subtle changes to the code that it apparently likes more. I’ve updated the current releases of ToneGen and MIDIGen to include these changes.)
NEW PLUGIN COMING SOON.
